Royal Huahine Resort, Huahine, Islands of Tahiti

Formerly known as Te Tiare Beach Resort, the Royal Huahine Resort is the only overwater bungalow resort on the island of Huahine. Its secluded location and three-star rating make it more affordable than the more popular high-end resort chains on Bora Bora and ideal for the laid-back traveler.

Accommodations

With 11 overwater bungalows, each with a jacuzzi tub, air conditioning, a sundeck and direct access to the ocean, Royal Huahine has all the standard overwater bungalow amenities you’d expect. The overwater bungalows all face west and offer sunset views and vistas of Rai’atea and the Taha’a Islands. 29 garden and beachside bungalows round out the resort’s accommodations. The bungalows are some of the largest in the Islands of Tahiti, however since the resort is older, the decor is a bit on the dated side and the resort is starting to show its age.

Note that WiFi is only available on the lobby and common areas, no in-room WiFi is offered.

Activities

The Royal Huaine is located on private beach and boasts a freshwater swimming pool, both of which offer plentiful swimming and sunning options. Paddle an outrigger canoe or kayak, snorkel, play volleyball, or enjoy the resort’s cultural demonstrations.

If you’re looking to explore Huahine, enjoy free boat transfers to the village of Fare where you can get groceries and shop at local merchants. Vanilla plantation visits can be arranged to see how some of the world’s finest vanilla is grown. You can also book a full day motu picnic, an island boat tour, or a 4x4 Jeep tour.

Dining

Ari’i, the resort’s overwater restaurant features a mix of Polynesian, French, and International cuisine and uses local produce and fresh caught fish. During the day, head to the Beach Bar for a cold cocktail and a poolside snack. In the evening, Hawaii Nui Bar serves up musical entertainment and drinks with sunset views.

The resort is also less than 10 minutes from downtown Huahine, which means you also have non-resort dining options nearby.

Spa

The resort’s Reva Spa is located in the middle of a lush tropical garden and offers a wide variety of body treatments including massages.
