South Beach, Miami Beach, Florida

Miami Florida's South Beach is all about seeing and being seen and attracts a well-to-do crowd. Upscale shopping and spas in the area are part of the area's appeal, as is the art deco architecture and the nightly club scene, but it's the beach that draws visitors daily for lounging, swimming, surfing, and kayaking in the Atlantic Ocean.

The South Beach stretch of sand runs from Ocean Drive and Fifth Street to 21st Street and Collins Avenue. Waterfront restaurants are plentiful or grab snacks from the Art Deco market and enjoy lunch on the sand.

Public beach access is free, but beach chair and umbrella rentals can run a spendy $10-35 per day. If you're looking for no cost entertainment on the sand, head to Lummus Park (5th Street to 14th Street) to play or watch beach volleyball.

The water is warm and clear and the beach is relatively clean considering the large crowds it attracts. Lifeguards keep an eye on the scene from Instagram-worthy art deco beach towers.

The beach — and the surrounding area — is frequented by everyone from families to thong-clad singles who are ready to mingle, so be prepared for crowds and people watching while you spend your day in the sand.
